Bwindi Mounatin Gorilla Trekking 3 Day Safari
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a natural World Heritage Site situated in the South-western part of Uganda, close to the boarders of Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, stretching over a geographical coverage of 321 sq. Km. The park is a habitat to an innumerable number of wildlife animal species, among which is the critically endangered mountain gorillas. Bwindi impenetrable National Park harbours more than half of the world's population of mountain gorillas, a fact that makes it a prime gorilla tours destination.
Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is done in any of its four trekking regions. These include; Buhoma region where the 3 mountain gorilla families of Mubare, Rushegura and Habinyaja reside, Ruhija region where another 3 mountain gorilla families of Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguliro live, the Rushaga region where the 5 families of Mishaya, Nshongi, Bweza, Kahungye and Busingye abide, and Nkuringo region having 1 family called Nkuringo. The presence of all these habituated gorilla families makes Bwindi an eminent gorilla tours destination.
Day 1 - Leave Kampala for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
At 7:00am in the morning, a professional driver – guide will pick you from whichever location you deem convenient in Kampala. After a briefing on how your 3 days gorilla tours excursion will go, you will embark on a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, situated in South-western Uganda.
Your driver will make a brief stop at the equator to allow you time for taking photos, having refreshments and visiting the traditional crafts shops in the area. While at the equator still, you will have the opportunity to do an experiment which proves that the imaginary line that divides the world into two halves lies in the place where you will be standing. A gorilla tours safari to Bwindi is incomplete without visiting the equator enroute. You will then continue with your drive, making your next stop in Mbarara town where you will have a savory lunch comprising of local delicacies.
Our spacious and wide glassed 4×4 wheel drive vehicle will allow you a chance to see the long-horned cattle in Mbarara, the rolling hills, the terraced landscapes and the panoramic view of the beautiful Kabale region in the Western Uganda. You will also be able to have an amazing lunch comprised of the traditional local dishes in Mbarara. A chance to visit Igongo cultural centre to experience the Ankole culture will also be at your disposal. You will then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and arrive at the site in the late evening. The Gorilla resort or the Buhoma community camp, among other terrific accommodation venues will be available for a good night’s sleep. This will mark the end of the first day of your gorilla tours expedition to Bwindi.
Day 2 - Gorilla trekking & Tracking in the Mighty Bwindi
After breakfast, your day’s gorilla trekking tours excursion will begin when you report at the park headquarters for a briefing on the gorilla tracking etiquette. The trained and experienced park rangers will tell you the dos and don’ts for a successful mountain gorilla tracking tour. It is after this meeting that you will transfer to the Impenetrable forest with your picnic lunchbox to commence a 30 minutes – 8 hours hike in quest for the prized mountain gorillas. The trek involves hiking up and down slippery slopes in dense mist-covered vegetation. The quest is a bit strenuous but highly gratifying. When you stand face to face with the potent creatures, you will know the trek was worthwhile.
After an hour or more of taking photographs and observing the habituated gorillas, their behavioural patterns; how they bond and relate with each other, you will return to your lodging where you will have an encounter with the native Batwa / Bakiga who will present a cultural performance. As the evening wanes, you will be able to retire to your choice dwelling for a peaceful rest. This will mark the end of the second day of your gorilla tours excursion in Bwindi.
Day 3 - The tour ends with a retrurn to Kampala
On the last day of your gorilla tours safari in Bwindi, you will have breakfast and then embark on a guided nature/birding walk in the forest before embarking on a drive back to Kampala – Uganda’s capital. After the excursion, you will return to your lodge in the early afternoon, have lunch, pack and then embark on your return journey. If you did not visit Igongo Cultural Center on the first day when your guide was driving to Bwindi, you will make a brief stop at the center for you to see the eye-catching crafts and traditional handiwork, you could even purchase a souvenir to remind you of your safari adventure in the Pearl of Africa. You will arrive at Kampala in the late evening. Your guide will drop you at a location of your choice. This will mark the end of your 3 days Bwindi gorilla tours safari adventure.
