Visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see the invaluable creatures.
Our professional ATP-Tours driver/guide picks you from Kampala/convenient place early in the morning for your departure to the Ziwa rhino sanctuary, which is the only place in Uganda where the surviving rhinos are kept. As you travel Northwards, you will stop briefly in the infamous Luwero Triangle-where brutal massacres preceding the takeover of power by the ruling government occurred. You will have a brief historical briefing, refreshments and a purchase of fresh fruits from this place. As you continue with 2-3 hrs journey, you will drive through Nakasongola which is part of the country's cattle corridor. Here you will be able to see cattle grazing in the deciduous savannah woodlands.
When you arrive at the sanctuary, you will be briefed by the rangers/guides about the dos and don’ts while on the rhino trek. It is important to give heed to the rangers’ instructions because the rhinos can become aggressive when they sense a need to defend themselves. After the brief meeting you hit the tracks in search for the prized creatures. The quest is normally done before its too hot because high temperatures cause the creatures to retreat from feeding and walking through the park. Once you locate the rhinos, you have the opportunity to watch them for over an hour, of which time you are able to take photographs and enjoy the way they relate with each other and go about their daily business.
Once your through with the tracking experience, you will have a sumptuous lunch at the Ziwa restaurant. Besides rhino tracking, you have the opportunity to engage in other activities; nature walks, birding, and spotting more wildlife species. The other animals your likely to see include; waterbucks, kobs, bushbucks and duiker. After your adventures, you will be driven back to Kampala by our ATP-Tours experienced driver-guide. Your Ziwa rhino tracking tour will end with the setting Sun.
