Lake Mburo Safari Tour

Lake Mburo National Park is the perfect destination for the enthusiastic naturalist.

One day Lake Mburo National Park Safari Tour

The Park is a habitat to an innumerable number of wildlife species; Burchell’s zebras, warthogs, buffalos, hippos, olive baboons, spotted hyenas, a great number of leopard and a few lions. Lake Mburo National Park is also a home to an extensive number of antelope species, among which is the massive herds of the famous ‘Impalas’ – medium-sized antelope species, the highly social topi, bushbuck, defassa waterbuck, oribi, common duiker and the boar reedbuck. The Park is also a great birding spot harbouring over 300 bird species including the rare Shoebill stork.

The Park is located in Western Uganda in Kiruhura district about 30km by road east of Mbarara, the largest city in the sub-region. The location of the park is approximately 240km by road, west of Kampala – Uganda’s largest city and capital. Lake Mburo National Park is the closest to Kampala as compared to the other parks. It is still the only park where a guided game walk is possible. ATP-Tours guarantees you a satiating tour to Lake Mburo National Park.

Trip Highlights

Itinerary

You will make a stop at the equator in Kayabwe – Masaka road, to take photographs and pay a brief visit to the crafts shops in the area where you can purchase souvenirs – crafts and handiwork made from traditional raw materials to remind you of your visit to the Pearl of Africa. You will also do an experiment which proves that the imaginary line dividing the world into two halves is in the place where you will be standing. You will continue with your journey to the Western Uganda, driving through massive Savannah grasslands and green hills dotted with modest homes, herds of long-horned Ankole cattle and plantations which are endemic to this region of the country.

Upon arriving at Lake Mburo National Park, you will head out for a game drive with ATP-Tour guide and a professional armed wildlife game ranger. The deliberately slow drive will take between 2-3 hours allowing you to not only spot but capture amazing scenery of the wildlife in motion on camera and video. You will be able to see massive herds of ‘impalas’, burcell’s zebras, various antelope species, buffalos, leopards, warthogs and lions.

After having your lunch, your safari excursion will continue with a boat cruise on the famous Lake Mburo. While on the lake, you will be able to spot a number of crocodiles, lots of breeding hippos, and a variety of bird species including the rare Shoebill stork.
