Kidepo Valley 4 Day Wildlife Safari

Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s most remote national park located in the rugged Savannahs of Kidepo in Karamoja region in the Northeast part of Uganda. The fascinatingly beautiful park lies hidden in the valley systems of the Kidepo and Narus Rivers. The valley floors lie between 3000 feet and 4000 feet.

Kidepo Valley National Park is the ultimate place to for a safari if you are a wildlife lover. The Park is endowed with over 80 species of mammals among which is about 28 species you won’t find in any other park in Uganda. Among these is the carcal, cheetah, bat-eared Fox and the klipspringer. The other wildlife species include the elephant, buffalo, zebra, waterbuck, spotted hyena, lions, leopards, oribis, and Guenther’s Dikdik, among others.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Depart from Kampala for Kidepo – stop in Kitgum

Our driver-guide will pick you from your hotel/location at around 8am after an early breakfast. After a mini briefing and introduction, you will set out on your trip to Kidepo Valley National Park. You will drive heading towards the North and make your first stop in Luweero Triangle for a purchase of fresh fruits and refreshment. The place is also a historical monument, you will know first hand that the brutal massacre – the 1980’s Uganda Civil War that ushered the ruling government into power occurred in that place. You will then proceed through Nakasongola and enjoy a beautiful view of the extensive Savannah grasslands plus the long-horned cattle in the famous Nakasongola cattle corridor.

The next stop you will make will be in Gulu town where you will have your lunch in one of the best hostels. You will hear a couple of interesting tales about the town – such as the Konyi massacres and abductions. You will then continue to Kitgum town where you will spend the night in a comfortable lodging .

Day 2 - Leave Kitgum & arrive at Kidepo Forest National Park

After having breakfast in the morning, you will continue your journey to the craved Kidepo Valley National Park. Upon arriving at the park, you will have your lunch and afterwards set out for a game drive through Karamoja’s prized wilderness. While driving through the Narus Valley, you will be able to spot herds of elephants, buffalos, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, bush-babies, zebras and many more. It is the perfect moment to take photographs and our guide drives at a snail pace on purpose. It’s part of his job to have you enjoy and capture the moments.

As the evening wanes, you will return to your lodging, freshen up and have your dinner later. You will then have a great sleepover in one of the most eminent wildernesses in Africa's pearl.

Day 3 - An entire day with Kidepo’s National Park wildlife

You will wake up to the mind-blowing beauty of the virgin Kidepo wilderness barely touched by modernity and Western civilization. After a delicious breakfast, you will set out for another game drive.

You will drive through forests, hills, open Savannahs, rocky outcrops and small mountain-like mounds. The slow drive will allow you time to spot the sought after wildlife; lions, zebras, cheetahs, oribis, giraffes, leopards, and to take-in beautiful scenery. You will also drive to Kanangoroko hot springs which is the most permanent source of water in the park.

After your lunch break, you will set out for a cultural/native tour to meet the IK people who live in the Monrungole mountains. This is a small tribe of about 100,000 people who are among the indigenous natives in north-eastern Uganda. The other people to see are the native Karamajongs – nomads. This is a very peculiar tribe that has stuck to the old ways and shunned civilisation and the ways of the Whiteman. Their pride is their cattle, they live or die for them and their worth is determined by the number of animals that one has. It’s an intriguing lot of people that is worth meeting.
As dusk creeps in, you will return to your lodging and have a sumptuous dinner before retiring to bed for your body recuperate for the next day’s journey.

Day 4 - End of Tour – travelling back to Kampala

You will have an early morning breakfast after which you will say goodbye to Kidepo Valley National Park. This day marks the end of your four-day wildlife safari. You leave the park early because your journey to Kampala is along one.
