The 3 day chimpanzee safari in Kibale Forest National Park is the ideal package for primate lovers.
Your safari will begin with our driver/guide picking you from Kampala for a 4-hours drive to Kibale Forest National Park which is located in the Western Uganda. You will drive along the Mubende-Fortportal route which offers you a beautiful scenery. You will be able to spot tea plantation terrains and a serene countryside with modest homes where the natives dwell. You will then make a stop in Fortportal at around midday to have lunch-a local delicacy for a great African experience.
Fortportal lies in the shadow of the legendary Rwenzori mountains which form a fascinating backdrop to the magnificent volcanic landscape. While still in Fortportal, you will have a glimpse of the royal tombs, the palace uphill and the ancient ‘amabeere ga Nina mwiru’ cave. These traditional sites have very intriguing tales to them.
You will then continue the journey to your prime destination-the Kibale Forest National Park. Once you are there, you can decide to retire to your choice accommodation or you can go for a nature walk to survey your surroundings. Apart from the chimpanzees, there is the fabulous rainforest, the peculiar tree and plant species, the abundance of rare bird and mammal species, moths and butterflies, the radiance of life and nature at its best.
After an early morning breakfast you will be driven to the park headquarters. Here you will have a briefing from experienced park rangers on how to conduct yourself for a prosperous chimpanzee tour. You will then launch into the forest to begin your expedition. Up to 3 large communities of chimpanzees have been habituated for the tracking adventure. You will be able to find the gigantic creatures without much strain. You will watch the chimpanzees in their natural habitat swinging from the branches in the high canopy above the forest flour, playing, feeding, and bonding.
As an option, you can decide to spend the whole day in a chimpanzee habituation experience-you spend the whole day with researchers, trackers and guides as they train the chimpanzees to adopt and feel at ease in their environment without being distracted and feeling threatened by the presence of humans.
Otherwise you can choose to spend the rest of the day taking a guided nature walk through the Bigodi wetlands. This jungle swamp is endowed with captivating bird, primate and mammal species. The bird species include; the Papyrus Gonoleks, Waxbills, Hornbills, weavers, Kingfishers, Cuckoos and flycatchers. Among the primate species are; the Red colobus monkeys, Gray cheeked mangabey’s, L’hoest monkeys, Vervet monkeys, baboons, blue monkeys, and occasional Chimpanzees. The mammal species include; Bush pigs, Bush bucks, Mongooses, otters and the elusive semi-aquatic Sitatunga antelopes. Our focus is giving the very best during this tour.
This is the last day of your tour, after a tasty breakfast prepared and served by the terrific staff at the Forest Park, you will pack and depart for the capital-Kampala. Your guide will make sure your in time to catch your flight or reach your chosen destination.
